Why Enable 2FA
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a critical second layer of security to your GPUnex account. With 2FA enabled, logging in requires both your password and a time-sensitive code generated by an authenticator app on your device. This means that even if someone obtains your password, they cannot access your account without also having physical access to your authenticator device.
Given that your GPUnex account holds USDC funds and is connected to GPU compute resources, enabling 2FA is one of the most important steps you can take to protect yourself. It guards against:
- Credential theft — If your password is compromised through phishing or a data breach elsewhere, 2FA prevents unauthorized login.
- Unauthorized transactions — An attacker cannot deposit, withdraw, or rent resources without passing the 2FA check.
- Account takeover — 2FA makes it significantly harder for anyone to lock you out of your own account.
We strongly recommend enabling 2FA immediately after creating your account, before depositing any funds.

Prerequisites
Before you begin, install a TOTP (Time-based One-Time Password) authenticator app on your phone or tablet. Recommended apps include:
- Google Authenticator — Available on iOS and Android.
- Authy — Available on iOS and Android. Authy offers encrypted cloud backups of your 2FA tokens, which can be useful if you switch devices.
- Microsoft Authenticator — Available on iOS and Android.
Any TOTP-compatible authenticator app will work.
Step-by-Step Setup
-
Log in to your GPUnex account and navigate to your Profile page.
-
Open the Security tab. In your profile settings, click on the Security tab.
-
Click “Set Up 2FA”. You will see a button or link labeled Set Up 2FA or Enable Two-Factor Authentication. Click it to begin the setup process.
-
Save your secret key. A secret key (a long alphanumeric string) will be displayed on screen. This is the key that your authenticator app uses to generate codes. You have two options to add it to your app:
- Scan the QR code — Open your authenticator app, tap the option to add a new account (usually a ”+” icon), and select “Scan QR code.” Point your camera at the QR code displayed on the GPUnex screen.
- Enter the key manually — If scanning is not possible, tap “Enter a setup key” in your authenticator app and type in the secret key displayed on screen.
Important: Consider writing down the secret key and storing it in a safe place (such as a password manager or a secure physical location). If you lose access to your authenticator app, you will need this key or your backup codes to regain access to your account.

-
Enter the 6-digit verification code. Your authenticator app will now display a 6-digit code that refreshes every 30 seconds. Enter the current code into the confirmation field on GPUnex.
-
Click Confirm. If the code is correct, 2FA will be enabled on your account. You will see a confirmation message and may be presented with backup codes (see the next section).
From this point forward, every time you log in, you will need to enter both your password and a fresh 6-digit code from your authenticator app.
Backup Codes
When you enable 2FA, GPUnex generates a set of backup codes. These are one-time-use codes that allow you to log in if you lose access to your authenticator app — for example, if your phone is lost, stolen, or reset.
How to Handle Backup Codes
- Save them immediately. As soon as backup codes are displayed, copy them and store them in a secure location. Recommended storage options include:
- A password manager (such as 1Password, Bitwarden, or KeePass).
- A printed copy stored in a safe or secure drawer.
- An encrypted file on a device you control.
- Do not store them in plain text on your computer, in an email, or in cloud notes that could be accessed by others.
- Each code can only be used once. After using a backup code to log in, it is permanently consumed and cannot be reused.
Important
Save your backup codes in a secure location immediately — you will need them if you lose access to your authenticator app. Each code can only be used once.
When to Use Backup Codes
Use a backup code in these situations:
- Your phone is lost, stolen, or broken and you cannot access your authenticator app.
- You switched to a new device and did not transfer your authenticator tokens.
- Your authenticator app was accidentally deleted.
To use a backup code, select the “Use backup code” option on the 2FA login screen and enter one of your saved codes.
If you have used most or all of your backup codes, navigate to Profile > Security and generate a new set. This will invalidate all previously issued codes.
